Instead of buying a Porche as most subarban male Americans are supposed to do when they hit 40, I have been writing ghazals on mid-life crisis 
. Seriously, this ghazal is on introspecting and finding answers to those eternal questions on one’s own identity and purpose in life. Third sher in this ghazal asks a fundamental question – can you fully take credit for all your achievements? It also reflects on a higher purpose for our lives – our responsibility for the society around us and the generations to come.

હતી પોતાની શું ઓળખ
હતી પોતાની શું ઓળખ, કદી જો વિસરે કોઇ
પછી તો બસ્, બની કાયા, કફનમાં નીકળે કોઈ
કહો કોને ભલા આ આઈનો શોધી રહ્યો આજે
હતું એ કોણ મારામાં? અને આજે રહે કોઈ…
તને દેખાય જે મારી, નથી ઉંચાઈ પોતાની
ઉભો છું હું આ કોના પર? અને મારે ખભે કોઇ…
હતો એ સાથ જીવન માં, હવે બસ યાદ છે મનમાં
કદી પાંપણમાં બેઠાતા, બની યાદો ઝરે કોઇ
હજુ તું દોડતું ઓ દિલ, કહે શું શોધતું ઓ દિલ
ઉછીના જે લીધેલા છે, તે શ્વાસો લઈ જશે કોઇ
મળે માયા થકી ઉર્મી, મળે સપના થકી આશા
બીજું તો શું જુએ ઓ દિલ? જીગરમાં જળહળે કોઈ…
પ્રથમ તારી હયાતી નો પુરાવો માંગશે લોકો
પછી શોધે ફરિશ્તાઓ, કબરમાં સળવળે કોઇ

આ શેર બહુ જ ગમ્યો . આખી ગઝલ સર્વાંગ સુંદર છે.
જવાહર બક્ષીની આ જ કાફિયાની ગઝલ યાદ આવી ગઇ. આશિત દેસાઇના અવાજમાં ગવાતી તે ગઝલ આ વાંચતાં ગુંજી ઊઠી.
